Hey there! I'm Joe Peterson, the Nutrient Nerd, and my journey to becoming a nutrition enthusiast wasn't exactly typical. Growing up in Mesa, Arizona, I was your average Joe (see what I did there), happy, healthy, and blissfully unaware of the importance of nutrition. Honestly, I didn't give much thought to my diet or overall health. I figured I'd stay young and invincible forever, right?
Like many, I indulged in sweets, sodas, and all things fried, while fruits and vegetables were practically foreign objects. Looking back, I can't help but think those choices played a role in the health challenges I faced later on.
At 25, while chasing my dream of becoming a police officer in college and working at a pizza joint, I started experiencing persistent aches and pains. Initially dismissed as overexertion from scrubbing dishes, the pain worsened. Finally, a doctor with rheumatology experience recognized the signs of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA), and my life took an unexpected turn.
Medication helped manage the symptoms, but it also brought a slew of side effects, making me feel older than my years. I was determined to find a better way. Years later, I discovered Optimal Health Systems and their whole food supplements. Intrigued, I embarked on a regimen of their pain and inflammation formula, along with a powdered fruit and vegetable blend.
The results were remarkable. After several months, I was able to ditch my cane and regain a level of mobility I thought I'd lost forever. Feeling empowered, I even made the decision to wean myself off the medications, relying solely on the whole food supplements.
Today, aside from a troublesome knee (a reminder of the JRA journey), I feel fantastic. I can walk, move freely, and even attempt a jog (though it might resemble a baby giraffe finding its legs!).
My experience ignited a passion for nutrition and holistic healing. This blog is dedicated to sharing my story, insights, and resources, so you too can discover the power of nutrients to transform your health and life. Welcome to The Nutrient Nerd community!
